ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has congratulated Comrade Churchill Oyowe on his re-election as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, and Comrade Patrick Ochei on his election as Vice Chairman, urging the new leadership to strengthen ethical journalism and professional collaboration.
The chapter’s Chairman, Godfrey C. Osakwe, FNIPR, conveyed the congratulatory message in a statement, commending the NUJ Delta State Council for the successful conduct of its election and expressing confidence that the newly elected leaders would bring the values of public relations to bear on their responsibilities.
Osakwe said the NIPR expected the new leadership to promote mutual understanding, accountability, professional excellence and constructive engagement within the union.
He also stressed the importance of strengthening ethical journalism and responsible communication among media practitioners in Delta State, describing journalists as important custodians of the public interest.
The NIPR chairman linked the need for responsible communication to Nigeria’s observance of National Reputation Day on Thursday, October 15, 2026, which was marked under the theme, “Own the Narrative: Shaping Nigeria’s Reputation Together.”
According to him, the occasion reinforced the responsibility of communication professionals, journalists and other stakeholders to protect the country’s reputation through integrity, professional conduct and responsible citizenship.
Osakwe said stronger cooperation between public relations practitioners and journalists could help improve the credibility of information, deepen public trust and contribute to a more positive reputation for Delta State and Nigeria.
He reaffirmed the NIPR Delta State Chapter’s readiness to work with the NUJ leadership on initiatives that advance professional standards, ethical communication and the public interest.
The chapter wished Oyowe, Ochei and other members of the NUJ Delta State Council a successful tenure, expressing hope that their leadership would strengthen professional unity and promote responsible media practice across the state.
