Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi

ABUJA/Nigeria: The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has applauded the recent extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, describing it as a resounding endorsement of his transformational leadership and professionalism in public service.

In a congratulatory letter issued Thursday in Abuja, NIPR President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, said the Customs under Adeniyi’s watch has experienced an unprecedented wave of innovation, efficiency, and reputation-building that sets it apart in the global customs ecosystem.

Neliaku, who described the CGC as a former Vice President of the Institute and current Vice Chairman of the Body of Advisers of the Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG), noted that Adeniyi’s tenure has deepened professionalism and repositioned the agency with a fresh, people-centered approach.

“The Comptroller-General upon assumption of office has effectively demonstrated that a vision backed by the right attitude will yield positive outcomes,” Neliaku stated. “What we see today in Customs is a turnaround and progressive shift from the past, anchored on passion to serve and add value, with utmost sense of commitment to national development.”

He highlighted several reforms spearheaded by Adeniyi, including enhanced passenger-Customs relations at airports, the deployment of homegrown technology for operational efficiency, and stronger stakeholder engagement, describing them as textbook examples of applied public relations principles in governance.

Dr. Neliaku expressed optimism that the next year of Adeniyi’s leadership would bring greater consolidation, not just for Nigeria’s Customs, but also for the international customs community in his role as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO).

He praised the CGC for elevating the image of the NCS, stating that his tenure is a clear indication that effective leadership, anchored on vision, communication, and strategy, can lead to national and global institutional excellence.

The letter, signed by Stanley Ogadigo, Director of Public Relations of NIPR, reaffirms the Institute’s commitment to recognizing leadership that models professionalism, accountability, and strategic communication in public institutions.
