The Delta state government has advised cattle herdsmen against the practice of carrying arms while moving with their animals in the state.
The call was made recently by the Executive Assistant to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on Religious Matters, Bishop Greatman Nmalagu, in a meeting with some cattle dealers in Oko, in Oshimili south LGA of Delta state.
The aide to the governor, told the cattle helmsmen that the season of Christmas is a period of joy and happiness and not for a time to be sad or of killing one and other.
“This period is a period of Joy, and we are happy that we are remembering our saviour, and is also a period we rejoice”. He said.
Bishop Nmalagu told the cattle dealers that because of the joy of the period, Christians patronise them during the celebration, by buying cows from them.
Speaking further he told them that because of the relation that exists, between them and Christians in the state, they are part of the celebration, and the society.
Advising them on the need to leave in harmony, he asked them to make sure the movement of the animals will not led to the destruction of arable crops of communities where they are accommodated.
Bishop Nmalagu asked the cattle herdsmen to ensure they stay away from dangerous weapons, because the state government will not tolerate such act, as the government will not hesitate to arrest such a person as he will be considered a threat to the state.
“Gun is not allowed, if you are annoyed, come and report to the government, instead of fighting and killing, report your annoyance to the government, do not take the law into your hand.” He advised.
