National Population Commission
ASABA/Nigeria: The National Population Controller in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the Delta State, Mr Daniel Tadafe, has advised parents to always visit the National Population Commission office to obtain birth certificate for their children.
Mr Tadafe who spoke to our correspondent recently in his office said the registration was free for children, and urged parents, especially those leaving in the rural communities to register their children.
He noted that the Birth certificate is a vital document for admission into higher institutions of learning, traveling abroad and helps to ascertain the population growth rate as well as planning for the future.
Mr Tadafe who is also the Technical Adviser to the Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, Chief Richard Odibo, said it was unfortunate for people to use sworn affidavits in place of the birth certificate, stressing that it was act of ignorance to neglect the vital registration.
The national population controller also disclosed that Ughelli North local government area has the highest population figure of about 320,000 in the state and urged government at all levels to pay attention to the developmental needs of the people.
