WARRI/Nigeria: Federal Commissioner representing Delta State at the National Population Commission (NPC), Honorable Richard Odibo, has assured Nigerians that the commission will conduct a censor with reliable figures that is free from controversy.

He said that censor was the bedrock of politics stressing that no government could plan effectively without a reliable censor.

Odibo, who gave this assurance in Warri, when he paid a courtesy call on the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Dr Michael Tidi, said the commission planned to go digital in all the 774 local government areas in the country.

He said though the commission had earlier done the censor in Warri South Local Government Area, it was planning to carry out the exercise again but added that this time, it was going to be done in a digital way.

The federal commissioner added that the digitalization process was expedient because the commission wants to come out with figures that will be used to plan the economy.

“We have finished everywhere in the state, but digital gadgets were not used in some of the council areas during that first time that we came. This is why we are coming back this time around to make sure that we use digital technology.

“This coming censor, we want to conduct a censor with a reliable figure that is not controversial,” Odibo said.

He, however, lamented the lack of interest of southerners to the ongoing censor preparation, stressing, saying: “Censors is the bedrock of politics.”

He commended the Warri South Local Government chairman, for the hundred percent support it gave the commission during the first exercise.

Responding, the Chairman of the Warri South Local Government Council, Dr Michael Tidi assured the commission of the council’s support, adding that it would do everything to ensure that the exercise was successful.

He said that the council was not unmindful of the importance of the exercise, explaining it was why preparation were on top gear even before the visit by the federal commissioner.

He however, appealed to federal commissioner to ensure that the exercise was hitch-free.

“Whatever needs to be done to give our people the true reflection of the exercise will be really appreciated.

“Politician in Warri South are very sensitive and they know the importance of this exercise.

“Please let the job be done professional and there should not be discrimination,” Tidi said.

On board to receive the Federal Commissioner and his entourage alongside the chairman, were the Secretary to the Warri South Council, Mr Joseph Oribioye, Head of Personnel Management, Warri South Council Area, Dr (Mrs) Minnie Igbrude, Leader of Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon Sylvester Ijabor, Supervisors of the council, among others.
