NSCDC Volunteers Decry Abandonment of Members in Delta State

ASABA/Nigeria: The Volunteers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Delta State have decried the gross marginalization and negligence of its members in the Federal Government’s absorption programme and recruitment.

Speaking to our repoerter, some of the operatives who dont want to be named because of fear of victimisation,  noted that while some of their members have been absorbed by the FG, others seems to have been left to remain at the Local Governments perpetually; they added that while they don’t know what is happening in other states, that in Delta State new recruits are being posted to join them at the various councils almost on daily basis from the State Command.

According to the volunteers, they are suspecting that their absorption is being shortchanged and used to recruit new members and then told that the new recruits are to replace some officers whereas no NSCDC member have been relieved of his/her jobs so far.

The recruitment is even more confounding because the new recruits are directly absorbed into the Federal Command/System while they are left at the mercy of the councils in Delta State. Worst still is that the new recruits do not have recruitment forms like the pioneer members, they were just issued appointment letters.

They also lamented that most of them that are left out of the FG absorption are pioneer members of the NSCDC that diligently gave their all to see that it becomes a success in the country and have equally grown in the ranks over the years.

“We are calling on the FG, the National Assembly and all relevant authorities to come to our aid in order for some persons not to  frustrate us out of our jobs because as it is, we are being threatened by the situation of things”, they said.

They have also appealed to the FG to always publish the names of NSCDC volunteers shortlisted for absorption and also sent copies to the various local government divisions for fairness.
