ABUJA/Nigeria: The Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF), in partnership with Bio Ventures for Global Health (BVGH), BLFA Global, and the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, has unveiled the A Mural of Hope – Call for Artists campaign to bring comfort and strength to young cancer patients at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH).

The initiative invites Abuja-based artists aged 18–35 to design a mural for the hospital’s paediatric oncology ward. The aim is to transform a hospital wall into a powerful symbol of resilience and healing, as part of efforts to support children battling cancer. Up to 70% of young cancer patients in Nigeria abandon treatment, often due to emotional and financial strain, a reality the campaign seeks to address through art.

“At NSSF, we believe health is more than medicine—it’s compassion, community, and courage,” said Dr. Fejiro Chinye-Nwoko, Managing Director of NSSF. “Through this single mural, we hope to remind every child receiving treatment that they are not alone.”

The contest offers a cash prize of $500 (₦ equivalent), full provision of painting materials, and national recognition across partner platforms. The selected artist will bring their design to life on the ward’s wall, creating a lasting beacon of hope for patients and families.

To enter, artists must post a 2–3 minute video on Instagram showcasing their design, creative process, and the story behind their concept. Entries must tag @nssf_wenaija and use #AMuralOfHope, with submissions closing July 12, 2025.

Dr. Chinye-Nwoko described the project as a model for impactful cross-sector collaboration. “By uniting healthcare, youth, and the creative industry, we’re proving that partnerships can build a healthier, more hopeful Nigeria,” she said.
