ASABA/Nigeria: Chairman, Delta State Council of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Chief Ifeanyi Obi has described the budgetary provision of N80 billion for road construction in the 2019 fiscal year by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration as good omen for the speedy development of the state.
According to Chief Obi, “all over the world, development, socio-economic activities are hinged on effective transportation and for road construction to get the greatest allocation in the budget was a clear indication that Governor Okowa is focused.”
Chief Obi spoke at the weekend in Asaba while reacting to the budget proposal for the 2019 fiscal year presented by Governor Okowa to the Delta State House of Assembly.
Chief Obi continued, “for the past three and half years, Governor Okowa has done a lot in the area of road construction which made our people to be calling him the Road Master, but, providing N80 billion naira from the N367 billion budget for road sector alone shows that, most of our roads, including the Ossissa/Ugiliamai road which is less than 6 kilometres will be constructed.”
“Our Governor has promised to construct the Ossissa/Ugiliamai road, if he succeeds in doing that as Mr Integrity, he will be recognised as the first Governor of Delta State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party to execute project in Ugiliamai community,” he said, adding, “we believe that the coming of Governor Okowa is a new dawn of development in our state, road is key to us, members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and we will continue to support our Governor till 2023.”
Chief Obi who was happy with the level of development in the state emphasised, “we have severally said that we will support Governor Okowa and we are happy that the world is seeing what he is doing, while some states have not started executing their budget for 2018, Governor Okowa has presented the one for 2019 which means that he knows what he is doing, he is delivering dividends of democracy to our people.
