Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has described the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) as critical factor for information gathering and national development.
The Governor made the description in Asaba when members of the Delta State Council of NURTW led by Comrade Ifeanyi Obi paid him a courtesy visit.
According to Governor Okowa, members of the union by the nature of their job are in contact with people of different character and as such, can be effectively utilized in information gathering, stating that in his administration’s quest for a peaceful, development-prone state, the Union could be very useful for gathering information on security.
“Your union is one union that is in contact with every Deltan and that makes your union very important and a very critical factor in whatever development we are going to embark on in Delta State,” he said.
“I believe that NURTW can partner with security agencies and government to fish out criminals within our state.”
The Governor continued, “most times, when it comes to gathering information, we will be glad if you can give us enough information in terms of security; there is need for you to look closely at the character of people at the motor parks; guide the union in such a manner that there is peace and for motor parks not to be security risks to us.”
While congratulating Comrade Obi on his re-election as Chairman of NURTW, Governor Okowa asserted, “because of the role you play, you can help us to grow our economy, you are a very critical sector for the development of Delta State.”
Earlier, Comrade Obi congratulated the Governor on his victory both at the polls and at the election petition tribunal.
Comrade Obi pledged support of members of the union to the Governor and commended him for his developmental stride, especially, in the area of road construction.
