The Chairman and the entire members of Okwele progressive Union (OPU), Abbi, Warri Branch, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State, have launched their 2016/2017 Annual Calendar at the prestigious Kutz Garden Hotel, off Sokoh Estate Road, Effurun, Delta State, Recently.

The Unique, well-attended and impressive ceremony was a gathering of crème-de-la-crème, comprising Top Government functionaries and captains of industries within Delta State and beyond.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the occasion and the President General, Abbi Development Association (ADA), Warri Branch, Comrade Uche Abamba, however thanked and appreciated all the invited guests’ presents, at the occasion, for finding time in the midst of their busy schedule to honour their invitation. While welcoming the entire guests and members of the OPU present, he however appealed to everybody present to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding so that the launching ceremony would be a huge success, pointing out that all the programmes for the day have been committed in the hand of God for its landmarks.
Also speaking, the present President General, Okwele progressive Union (OPU) Warri Branch, Delta State, Mr. Felize Okolo who sympathetically ordered the entire people present at the occasion to stand up to observe few minutes of silence to the two late leaders , former President General, Late Engr. (Ogbuefi) Jack Abiodun Chianumba and the former patron, Late Pa Michael Ikpeamagor, who founded and led the Union for a good numbers of years but later died recently.
Mr. Okolo further explained that the full meaning of O.P.U is ‘Okwele Progressive Union’, Warri Branch (OPU), comprising the entire people of Abbi from Okwele quarter, coming together regularly to find a means for the progress and development of the people of Okwele in Abbi. He further noted that the Union has been in existence for the past 25 years fighting for the progress of Okwele Quarters in Abbi Commnity.
On the achievement of the union so far, the President General of the O.P.U. maintained that a Ring- well water has been built for Abbi Girls Secondary School, Abbi, in the Community stressing that all the streets at Okwele and Inam-Abbi quarters Abbi, were also named by OPU, for easy location by visitors. He added that the union was able to provide chairs for the council of elder (Ikpala) in the Community.
According to the Mr. Okolo, the 2016/2017 Annual calendar launched recently is to enable people understand when and how some of the major activities/events are done in Abbi, just as he has urged all sons and daughters of Okwele in Abbi Community Living in Warri and its environs to come, join, din and partner with OPU Warri branch, Delta State, for the progress and the development of Abbi Community in Delta State.
Addressing the Journalists at the end of the ceremony, the General Secretary, Okwele Progressive Union (OPU),Abbi, Warri Branch, Delta State, Mr. Mosco G. Numga, who whole heartedly described the launching ceremony as a huge success and landmark in the history of the union, explaining the the Okwele Progressive Union (O.P.U) Abbi, Warri branch, is a family meeting, where all the sons and daughters of Okwele quarters from Abbi Community, in Ndokwa West L.G.A, living in Warri, Delta State partner and relate together on monthly basis to find solutions to their individual problems and create avenue for the peace and unity of Abbi Community.
Mr. Numga added that the union has really been in existence for over 20 years, and that the aims and objectives of the union is to really bring peace and development to Abbi Community in particular and Ndokwa nation in general, pointing out that some major projects have also been executed by the union in Abbi Community.
The General Secretary, OPU Warri Branch further disclosed that the Union has some good plans on ground to provide street lights, sponsor scholarships to the students in the Community, open Local markets in Okwele quarters in the nearest future, just as he has tasked all parents from the quarter to try and persuade their children living in Warri to come and partner with O.P.U, Warri branch, to move the Union to an enviable height.
In another executive brief media chart with the newsmen, the spokesman and the P.R.O, Okwele Progressive Union Abbi, Warri Branch, , Mr. (Ogbuefi) Felix Ujene, disclosed that there three quarters that really constitute Abbi Community, lamenting that some persons from Okwele quarter don’t usually show concern in doing something for the progressive and development of the Community, adding that that is the essence of this calendar to discourage such a nonchalant attitude.
He further lamented that over 2000 people from Okwele quarter in Abbi Community, residing in Warri have bluntly refused to partner and associate with O.P.U, for its progress and development, but only come around when it is time for celebration, claiming that they belong to O.P.U, Warri Branch.
Mr. Ujene who thanked everybody present for gracing the occasion, praying God to bless them mightily, however urged the entire sons and daughters from Okwele quarters in Abbi, residing in Warri to try and be a member of the Okwele Progressive Union, Abbi, Warri Branch, Delta State, as soon as possible.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the colourful launching of the 2016/2017 calendar by the entire guests and the members with different denomination, to boost the financial position of the union.
Among prominent personalities who came and graced the occasion were: Barr. & Mrs. Avuru Nduka, Mr. Sunday Egwuanumku, Vice President, OPU, Warri, Mrs. Beatrice Nwanwene, Lady President OPU, Warri, Mr. Victor Kobodokuni, Assist. Secretary OPU, Warri, Mr. & Mrs. Henry Okpala, Mr. &Mrs. Ijibike, Ms. Victoria Obiowa, Mrs. Lilian Kobodokuni, Mrs. Ikeogwe Ifeoma Mrs. Ngbama Rachael, Mrs. Okolo Florence , Ms. Favour and host of other personalities present
