Obi Calls for Patience as Ugiliamai Laments Neglect By Government

ASABA/Nigeria: Chief Ifeanyi Obi has urged the people of Ugiliamai, Ndokwa West local government area of Delta State to be patient with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration as it will deliver dividends of democracy to the people.

Chief Obi who is the Ubefulunienyi of Onicha Ukwuani gave the assurance in Asaba while addressing some indigenes of Ugiliamai community who visited him to complain that there was no single project executed by the Delta State government despite their support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 1999.

According to Chief Obi, “Governor Okowa is our own, we should continue to give him our support till he completes his tenure in 2023.”

“It is good that you complain that there is no single project executed by the Delta State government since 1999 despite our support for the PDP, we are all members of the party, we cannot change, especially now that our own person is the Governor,” Chief Obi said.

He continued, “the Governor is aware that there is need to construct the Ugiliamai/Ossissa, Ugiliamai/Obikwele roads which will connect Ndokwa West and Ndokwa East local government areas, our Governor is aware that the Ugiliamai Mixed Secondary School and Asamala Primary School need perimeter fencing and conducive classrooms for learning.”

“The issue of Ugiliamai Health Centre which was started by Otu-Ofu age grade in 1982 will be addressed by the Governor, our people need to benefit from the health insurance scheme introduced by our Governor through a functional health centre in our community and we will have to look into the issue of electricity because, government is no longer in charge of electricity supply, but, we can appeal to Senator Peter Nwaoboshi to use the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to assist us with electricity,” Chief Obi stated, calling on the people to remain patient in the area of political appointments.

Chief Obi observed that it was unfortunate that since 1999 despite the support of the people for government by been peaceful, no Ugiliamai person has been given any political appointment despite the array of technocrats and strong membership of the people in the PDP.

Earlier, Mr Steve Okunima had complained that the people of Ugiliamai cannot continue to suffer in silence when Governor Okowa’s developmental strides were visible in different parts of the state and called on Chief Obi to use his close relationship with the Governor to attract development to the community.
