Oborevwori Challenges Opposition to Tour Delta Projects, Defends Infrastructure Spending

OGWASHI-UKU/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has invited opposition figures to join him on a tour of ongoing and completed projects across the state to witness firsthand how government funds are being utilized.

Speaking after inspecting the completed twin bridges at Ubu River along the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, Oborevwori dismissed recent criticisms by former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, describing them as baseless and a reflection of ignorance about governance.

“I don’t want to join issues with my critics,” Oborevwori said. “Some say we have received so much money and are building a flyover for over N70 billion. How can a flyover cost N77 billion? Let them come and see what we are doing with the money.”

The governor emphasized that his administration, now in its 21st month, had not borrowed any funds yet continued to execute multiple infrastructure projects across the state without owing contractors. He challenged his critics to drive through the newly completed roads to appreciate the progress.

“It now takes just one hour and twenty minutes to get to Ughelli, his local government. The road is good,” he added.

On the twin bridges, Oborevwori expressed satisfaction with the progress, assuring that the entire road project would be completed and inaugurated before the end of the year.

“When I last visited this place for an inspection, the situation was completely different,” he noted. “But today, you can see the transformation. This bridge was a critical part of the construction, and without it, Sector C1 of the road could not be completed.”

He commended the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), for accelerating work on the project, expressing confidence that the road—spanning from Kilometer 92 to Kilometer 117—would be completed within schedule.

Governor Oborevwori also inspected the new Commissioners’ Quarters, an eight-unit housing project consisting of four-bedroom duplexes with attached boys’ quarters. He explained that the initiative was meant to accommodate remaining members of the State Executive Council who were yet to be housed within the quarters.

“With this additional project, the total number of accommodations in the Commissioners’ Quarters will rise to 30,” he said. “The project is 95 percent complete and will be ready for inauguration next month.”

On the Ofagbe Bridge along the Isoko Ring Road, the governor revealed that the state government would soon decide whether to retain the current contractor or reassign the project to another firm based on performance.

Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development, assuring Deltans that long-standing road projects covering approximately 143 kilometers would be fully completed by the end of the year.
