ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has announced plans to convene a major security summit aimed at strengthening collaboration among key stakeholders in tackling security challenges and enhancing public safety across the state.
The summit, scheduled for June 17, 2026, at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, will bring together security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society groups and other critical stakeholders to chart a common course towards a safer Delta State.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, the event is themed “Security: A Collective Responsibility” and will be hosted by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The summit is expected to serve as a strategic platform for dialogue, collaboration and the development of practical solutions to emerging security threats facing communities across the state.
Dr. Emu said the gathering reflects the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to deepening stakeholder engagement and promoting collective action in the fight against crime and insecurity.
He noted that security remains a shared responsibility that requires the active involvement of government, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and citizens.
According to the SSG, participants expected at the summit include security chiefs, representatives of the Armed Forces, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local government council chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, Presidents-General of communities, ethnic youth leaders, community youth leaders, civil society organisations, transport unions and market women associations.
The state government said the broad participation underscores its determination to build a comprehensive and inclusive security framework capable of addressing both existing and emerging threats.
Emu stressed that the summit would provide an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange ideas, assess current security challenges and formulate strategies for improving intelligence sharing, community participation and inter-agency cooperation.
He added that discussions at the summit would also focus on strengthening ongoing efforts by security agencies and community-based organisations to combat criminality and safeguard lives and property.
The government urged all invited stakeholders to participate actively and contribute meaningfully to deliberations aimed at reinforcing the state’s security architecture and sustaining peace across Delta.
The summit comes amid increasing calls for stronger partnerships among security actors and community groups in confronting terrorism, kidnapping, cultism, drug-related crimes and other threats to public safety.
Observers believe the forum will further consolidate the state’s efforts at promoting a united front against insecurity while fostering stronger collaboration between government institutions and local communities.
With a diverse range of stakeholders expected to attend, the summit is anticipated to produce actionable recommendations that will support the state’s drive towards a more secure and peaceful environment for residents and investors alike.
