Oborevwori Expresses Shock Over Death of DBS Presenter Vivian Nkechika

A dignified moment on the news desk — the late Vivian Nkechika, a dedicated Delta TV broadcaster whose professionalism, grace, and commitment to informing the public left a lasting imprint on journalism in Delta State.

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed shock and deep sadness over the death of a presenter with the Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Asaba, Miss Vivian Nkechika, describing her passing as a painful and untimely loss to the journalism profession and society at large.

Miss Nkechika, an indigene of Ekwuoma in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, served as an Assistant Manager in the Programmes Department of Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba. She reportedly died on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, following complications arising from a domestic gas explosion.

In a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori extended his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, the management and staff of DBS Asaba, media practitioners across the state, and the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

The governor described the late broadcaster as a committed and principled professional whose career was marked by diligence, ethical conduct, and an unwavering sense of responsibility to the ideals of credible and responsible journalism.

He noted that her passion for public enlightenment, factual reporting, and professional excellence endeared her to colleagues and earned her wide respect within the media space, adding that her voice and dedication made a meaningful contribution to informing and educating the public.

“This is a moment of deep sadness. Delta State has lost a vibrant and dedicated media practitioner whose work contributed immensely to public awareness and enlightenment,” the governor said. “Her sudden death is a painful loss to her family, the media fraternity, and all who value ethical journalism.”

Governor Oborevwori prayed for divine strength and comfort for her family, friends, and colleagues to bear the irreparable loss, while also asking God to grant eternal rest to her soul, noting that her contributions to broadcasting and journalism in Delta State would remain enduring and unforgettable.
