ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the State House of Assembly for its steadfast legislative contributions, describing the lawmakers as key partners in advancing the state’s development agenda. The Governor made the remarks during a thanksgiving service to mark the 2nd anniversary of the 8th Assembly, held at RCCG Region 24, Unity Model Parish, Asaba, on Sunday.
Oborevwori praised the Assembly for acknowledging divine guidance in its work, noting that the thanksgiving service was the most meaningful part of the anniversary. “It is truly heartwarming to see you recognize the place of the divine in your affairs. Lawmakers must depend on God for wisdom and guidance,” he said.
The Governor lauded the Assembly’s legislative achievements, highlighting their role in strengthening democracy and driving progress through impactful bills, motions, and oversight functions. He emphasized the vital collaboration between the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary, which he said had delivered gains in education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and youth development.
On security, Oborevwori disclosed that his administration had convened a high-level meeting with lawmakers, security chiefs, local government chairmen, and traditional rulers to address challenges. He cautioned against sharing sensitive security information on social media, stressing that discretion was key in security management. “We are doing a lot behind the scenes that we don’t publicize. Security today requires discretion,” he added.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, expressed gratitude to God for the Assembly’s accomplishments, describing the anniversary as a moment for thanksgiving and reflection. He revealed that 16 bills were received in the second session, with seven passed and combined with nine from the first session, 15 had been signed into law. Guwor thanked the Governor, fellow lawmakers, and staff for their cooperation and urged prayers for the Assembly’s continued success.
In his sermon, Pastor Olufemi Olumide of RCCG Region 34 underscored the power of thanksgiving in attracting divine favor and restoring purpose. He warned against pride and urged the congregation to honor God in all their undertakings, describing thanksgiving as “spiritual medicine” that cleanses the soul and draws blessings.
