Oborevwori Hails Joe Omene at 80

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has paid glowing tribute to former President-General of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Chief Joe Omene, describing him as one of the most influential leaders of the Urhobo nation whose contributions to peace, justice and development have left an enduring imprint on Delta State and the Niger Delta region.

Governor Oborevwori gave the commendation while congratulating the elder statesman on the occasion of his 80th birth anniversary, praising his decades of dedicated service to the Urhobo people and his unwavering commitment to the advancement of the Niger Delta.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor described Chief Omene as an outstanding leader, respected voice and courageous advocate whose contributions to national development remain remarkable.

Oborevwori noted that throughout his public life, the Mosogar-born leader had distinguished himself through selfless service, principled leadership and an unyielding commitment to the welfare of his people.

According to the governor, Omene’s courage, wisdom and dedication to justice have earned him widespread admiration and respect across Delta State and beyond.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate our great leader, Chief Joe Omene, as he clocks 80 years on June 20,” the governor stated.

He commended the former UPU President-General for his immense contributions to the growth and unity of the Urhobo nation, describing him as a bridge-builder whose leadership helped strengthen communal harmony and socio-economic development in the region.

The governor also acknowledged Omene’s role in promoting peace and stability, noting that his voice has remained influential in matters affecting the Urhobo people and the wider Niger Delta.

Oborevwori prayed for God’s continued guidance and protection upon the octogenarian, wishing him good health, strength and many more years of impactful service to humanity.

He expressed gratitude for Omene’s enduring contributions to peace, unity and development, stating that his life of service remains an inspiration to younger generations and emerging leaders across the state.

“As Chief Joe Omene celebrates this significant milestone, we join his family, friends, associates and the entire Urhobo nation in thanking God for a life marked by purpose, sacrifice and outstanding service to society,” the governor added.
