ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated Team Delta for once again asserting their dominance by emerging overall winners at the 22nd National Sports Festival held in Ogun State, marking their fifth consecutive triumph at the prestigious event.

Represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Ejiro Etacheruro, at the festival’s closing ceremony on Thursday at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, the Governor commended the athletes for their exceptional performance and lauded their unrelenting dedication in defending their title.

Team Delta topped the medals table with a commanding haul of 337 medals, comprising 126 gold, 100 silver, and 111 bronze, solidifying their position as the leading force in Nigerian sports.

In a statement issued Friday in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori expressed profound pride in the Delta State Sports Commission, coaching staff, athletes, and supporters for upholding the state’s legacy of excellence through their tireless commitment.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to sports development, noting that the continued success of Team Delta is a driving force behind the government’s increasing investment in infrastructure, training, and youth-focused initiatives.

“Our administration remains steadfast in promoting sports development, inspired not only by the achievements of our predecessors but also by the legendary strides of General Samuel Ogbemudia during his tenure as Governor of the defunct Bendel State,” Oborevwori stated.

He described Team Delta’s fifth straight victory as a reflection of the indomitable spirit, unity, and discipline that defines the athletes and reaffirmed that his government would sustain and enhance the support needed to maintain their winning momentum.

The Governor further emphasized that the triumph in Ogun was not merely a sporting achievement, but a testament to what is possible when vision, leadership, and collective will converge to create opportunities for young talents to thrive and inspire national pride.
