ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has formally informed the Delta State House of Assembly of his intention to embark on a two-week vacation starting from Monday, 7th October 2024.
The Governor’s notice was conveyed in a letter read during Thursday’s plenary session by the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor. In the letter, Oborevwori cited Section 190 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which mandates that Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, will assume the role of Acting Governor during his absence.
In the letter, Governor Oborevwori expressed his gratitude to the House for their support and requested that the information be officially communicated to the Honourable members.
The Governor’s letter read in part: “I bring warm greetings to the Right Honourable Speaker and the members of the Delta State House of Assembly, and I wish to inform the Honourable House that I will be proceeding on a two-week vacation from Monday, 7th October 2024. In accordance with Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), His Excellency, Chief (Sir) Monday Onyeme, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, shall perform the duties of my office as Acting Governor during the period of my leave.”
Following the reading of the letter, the House adopted a motion presented by the Majority Leader, Hon (Dr) Emeka Nwaobi, in support of the Governor’s request.
In another development, the House received and adopted the report of its Special Committee on Bills, which reviewed the Public Accounts Committee’s findings on the Auditor-General’s report for the financial year ending 31st December 2022. The report was presented by Hon Nwaobi, who also represents Aniocha North constituency.
The Assembly adjourned its plenary session until Tuesday, 8th October 2024.
