ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has mourned the death of his predecessor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, recalling his contributions to public administration and infrastructure development in the state.
Oborevwori, in a condolence statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, described Uduaghan as a leader who placed the collective interest of Delta State above ethnic considerations, extending his sympathies to the bereaved family and the wider Itsekiri community.
The governor acknowledged Uduaghan’s place in the state’s political history, noting that his years in public office contributed to Delta’s development and left a record that would remain part of the state’s governance experience.
He also highlighted the former governor’s work on infrastructure, pointing to the importance of development projects undertaken during his administration.
Beyond infrastructure, Oborevwori’s tribute centred on Uduaghan’s ability to work across ethnic boundaries in a state with diverse communities. He said the former governor’s approach to leadership was one of the qualities for which he would be remembered.
Uduaghan served as Delta State Commissioner for Health between 1999 and 2003 before becoming Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007. He was elected governor in 2007 and served two terms, leaving office in May 2015.
His tenure covered an important period in the state’s political and economic development, with infrastructure, healthcare delivery and security in the Niger Delta featuring prominently in public policy discussions.
Oborevwori expressed condolences to Uduaghan’s wife, Roli, his children, other family members, political associates, the Itsekiri nation and the people of Delta State.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the former governor’s soul and asked God to give the bereaved family and others affected by the death the strength to endure their loss.
