ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured Deltans that the remaining two years of his administration will be defined by transformational leadership, deeper unity, and accelerated development across the state.
Addressing a gathering of top political leaders, clergy, and citizens at the 2025 Delta State Thanksgiving and Praise Day held on Thursday at the Events Centre in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori expressed confidence that the state’s strong alignment with the Federal Government—given Delta’s status as one of Nigeria’s top revenue contributors—will yield even more dividends for the people in the years ahead.
The Governor thanked the people of Delta State for their unwavering support, peaceful coexistence, and unity, which he said had made the journey of governance smoother and more impactful. He assured that the next phase of his administration would deepen the achievements recorded in the first half of his tenure.
“To the glory of God, this administration has reached the halfway mark of its tenure. These past two years have been focused on consolidating previous achievements, breaking new ground, and creating fresh pathways for the socio-economic advancement of our beloved Delta State,” he said. “It is our custom in Delta State to return all the glory to God for all He has done, and today, we are here to show our appreciation.”
Governor Oborevwori noted that the midterm report, which he presented to the Delta State House of Assembly the day before, highlights measurable progress across key sectors. He described the report as a reflection of the administration’s dedication to inclusive growth and improved livelihoods. “As you know, thanksgiving is an application for more. We need more, and that is why we have come here to give thanks,” he said.
“As we begin the third year of our administration with thanksgiving, I believe God will continue to increase us and grant us our collective desires as a people. I am delighted to see our federal lawmakers, federal appointees, and leaders of our great party, the APC, fully represented here today. This gathering reflects the diversity and unity of our state,” the Governor added. “For the first time in ten years, we are united. To God be the glory.”
He urged the people to keep praying for Delta State, reaffirming his commitment to the MORE Agenda, which stands for Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security. “We covet your prayers and continued support. I assure you all that we will do more, and we will listen to the people more,” Oborevwori stated.
Delivering a sermon titled “Giving Thanks and Enduring to Keep the Unity in the Bond of Peace,” based on Ephesians 4:3, Archbishop Cyril Odutemu of the Anglican Communion, Bendel Province, commended the Governor for his remarkable performance in just two years. He described Oborevwori as “a child of destiny” whose doubters have now become admirers.
He cited the successful completion of the Ughelli–Asaba Highway as one of the administration’s standout projects that had touched lives and strengthened public confidence. He urged the Governor to sustain his relationship with critical stakeholders and ensure inclusivity in governance.
The Archbishop also led special prayers for the Governor, the administration, and the people of Delta State, asking for continued peace, unity, and prosperity in the state.
The well-attended Thanksgiving and Praise Day was graced by the Governor’s wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori; Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme and his wife, Catherine; former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and his wife, Edith; Senators Ned Nwoko, Ede Dafinone, and Joel-Onowakpo Thomas; the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; several House of Representatives members; Delta APC Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, among other dignitaries.
