ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to security, stating that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority for sustainable economic growth and social stability.
Speaking on Tuesday during the unveiling and handover of a criminal database and investigative equipment to the Delta State Police Command, the governor emphasized that a functional justice system requires both dedicated personnel and the right infrastructure.
Represented by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, Governor Oborevwori highlighted the significance of the newly established data center and investigation room, which will enhance police operations in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2022.
“This project is a testament to our administration’s commitment to security, justice, and good governance under the M.O.R.E agenda,” he said. “With this facility, we are strengthening the ability of our police officers to carry out their duties while promoting fairness, accountability, and respect for human rights.”
He recalled that in November 2023, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, commissioned 31 brand-new operational vehicles donated by the state government, reinforcing its support for security agencies.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the initiative, noting that the advanced database would enhance crime management, track suspects, and improve investigative processes. He stressed the need for continuous collaboration to prevent criminals from using Delta as a safe haven.
Executive Secretary of the Delta State Security Trust Fund, Chief Sam Osasa, also praised the project, describing it as a major step in strengthening law enforcement. He noted that the facility would address longstanding challenges in criminal justice administration, particularly in ensuring the integrity of confessional statements made during interrogations.
With this latest intervention, Governor Oborevwori’s administration continues to reinforce Delta State’s security architecture, ensuring a safer environment for residents and businesses alike.
