
MAKURDI/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated the Government and people of Benue State on the occasion of the state’s 50th anniversary, describing the Golden Jubilee as a celebration of resilience, unity and five decades of remarkable growth and development.
Governor Oborevwori’s goodwill message was delivered on Saturday by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, during the Golden Jubilee celebration held in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor and the people of Delta State, Guwor congratulated Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, and the people of the state on attaining the historic milestone. He described the anniversary as a fitting opportunity to reflect on the state’s rich history, cultural heritage and contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
“On behalf of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, I extend the warm felicitations of the Government and people of Delta State to His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Governor of Benue State, on this historic Golden Jubilee celebration,” Guwor said.
The Speaker commended Governor Alia for the developmental strides recorded since assuming office, expressing confidence that the administration would continue to implement policies and programmes that would enhance the welfare of the people and accelerate the state’s development.
“We acknowledge the remarkable progress Benue State has made under Governor Hyacinth Alia’s leadership and are confident that the years ahead will usher in even greater accomplishments for the state and its people,” he stated.
Guwor noted that beyond commemorating 50 years of statehood, the Golden Jubilee also celebrated Benue’s enduring legacy as Nigeria’s “Food Basket of the Nation” and its reputation for cultural diversity, agricultural excellence and national unity. He prayed for sustained peace, stability, prosperity and greater socio-economic advancement for the state.
“As Benue State commemorates this Golden Jubilee, let me once again congratulate the Government and people of the state and pray that this landmark anniversary will usher in greater peace, unity, prosperity, sustainable development and even more remarkable progress in the years ahead,” he added.
The colourful ceremony drew an array of distinguished personalities from across the country, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, as well as governors, senior government officials, lawmakers, traditional rulers and other eminent Nigerians.
The Delta State delegation to the event included the Commissioner for Energy, Engr. Michael Anoka, the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, Chief Kestin Pondi, and other top government officials, underscoring the strong bond of friendship and cooperation between Delta and Benue states.
