Oborevwori Sets 2027 Deadline for Ayakoromo Bridge, Vows End to Infrastructure Delays in Delta

BURUTU/Nigeria: In a bold push to deliver long-awaited infrastructure to riverine communities, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared early 2027 as the firm completion deadline for the Ayakoromo Bridge project. During an unannounced inspection of the 612-metre bridge and its 3-kilometre approach road across the Forcados River at Egbo-Ide, the Governor expressed deep commitment to ending years of stagnation on the project, which links Ughelli South and Burutu local government areas. “This bridge is very dear to me and the people,” he said. “The contractor has set 2027 for completion, but we would prefer it wrapped up earlier.”
Oborevwori, who noted the significance of the 18-span bridge to the surrounding communities, emphasized that although the contract predates his administration, he ensured the contractor was remobilized to site under his watch. The spontaneous show of excitement by residents upon his arrival, despite having no prior notice, he said, underscored the project’s importance. “As you can see, the people are excited. That tells you how crucial this project is for Ayakoromo, Egbo-Ide, and neighbouring communities.”
Earlier, the Governor also visited the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges Project in Warri South Local Government Area, another long-delayed project he vowed to complete. “This project is vital to our people. It connects urban and rural areas and brings economic opportunities,” he said. Governor Oborevwori reiterated his commitment to delivering results under his administration’s MORE Agenda, in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope vision. He further announced the construction of two new jetties in the area and instructed contractors to speed up work, warning that delays beyond set timelines would no longer be tolerated.
