Oborevwori Urges Unity, Peace, and Selflessness During Christmas Celebration

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Nigerians to use the festive season of Christmas as a time for reflection on the values of unity, peace, and selflessness, urging all citizens to prioritize the nation’s sustainable progress and development.

Speaking to journalists after attending a Christmas service at the Living Faith Church in Asaba on Wednesday, Governor Oborevwori, accompanied by his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, and family members, emphasized the importance of placing national interest above personal or sectional aspirations to foster stability and collective progress.

Highlighting the essence of Christmas, the governor reminded Nigerians that the celebration signifies selfless love, sacrifice, and the spirit of giving, as demonstrated by the birth of Jesus Christ. He encouraged citizens to embody these virtues in their daily lives, especially during challenging times.

“I am delighted to celebrate this Christmas in Asaba, our state capital, alongside all of you,” Governor Oborevwori said. “Last year, I marked Christmas in my village, but this year, I felt it was important to celebrate here in Asaba with the people. I assure Deltans of peace throughout the festivities, and I deeply appreciate the unwavering support they have shown to my administration.”

Acknowledging the current difficulties facing the country, the governor expressed optimism about the future. “These are trying times, but I believe that 2025 will be a better year,” he said. “Despite global challenges, we are managing our situation in Nigeria well. The key is unity, and we must prioritize the collective interest of Nigeria over personal ambitions.”

Governor Oborevwori also extended his condolences to families affected by recent tragedies, including stampedes in some areas, and prayed for their strength to bear the losses. “Mistakes happen, but as a nation, we must come together, learn, and grow stronger,” he added.

The governor concluded by reaffirming his commitment to fostering peace and unity across Delta State and Nigeria, noting that 2025 would mark a year of consolidation and progress.

In his sermon during the service, Pastor Samuel Johns of Living Faith Church, Asaba, delivered a message titled “Understanding the Purpose of the Coming of Christ.” He reminded congregants that Christmas celebrates salvation, underscoring that Christ’s birth brought a new chapter for humanity by restoring joy, peace, and divine presence.

“Christ came to give life at its best, destroy the works of the devil, and restore the supernatural to mankind,” Pastor Johns said. He urged Christians to accept Christ as their personal Savior, believe in the provisions of redemption, and walk in obedience to His word to fully access the blessings of His coming.

Governor Oborevwori’s presence and message of hope underscored the deeper significance of the Christmas season, calling for collective efforts toward a united and prosperous Nigeria.
