ASABA/Nigeria: In a bold step to bridge the digital divide and improve access to quality education, the First Lady of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, on Thursday distributed 500 uLesson educational tablets to pupils and students in public primary and secondary schools across the state.
The event, held at Government House in Asaba, was a collaborative effort between the Renewed Hope Initiative and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and is part of a broader campaign to enhance learning outcomes through digital tools.
Addressing the gathering, Deaconess Oborevwori described the initiative as a strategic investment in the future of Delta’s children. “Again, we are giving students from the Primary, Junior, and Senior Secondary Schools five hundred uLesson tablets, one hundred for Primary, two hundred for Junior Secondary, and two hundred for Senior Secondary schools,” she announced.
She emphasized that the initiative is aimed at equipping young learners with 21st-century tools to thrive in a knowledge-driven world. “This is a Renewed Hope Initiative and NDDC educational collaboration,” she explained, expressing hope that the gesture would promote self-driven learning and academic improvement, especially among underserved children. “It is my earnest prayer that whatever we are giving will multiply a hundredfold in Jesus’ name,” she added.
Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Catherine Onyeme, who delivered the welcome address, praised the gesture as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to empowerment and human capital development. “This is what this government is known for, enriching and empowering the people around us,” she said, describing the initiative as “a beacon of progress.”
Mrs. Onyeme also encouraged women traders in attendance to utilize the support packages provided judiciously, underlining the importance of purpose-driven empowerment.
Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, noted the transformative role of technology in the learning process. “With access to the internet, children can do a lot using this tablet. This gadget will enable them to continue conquering the world,” he stated, commending the Oborevwori administration for its focus on security and comprehensive development.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, applauded both Deaconess Oborevwori and the First Lady of Nigeria for their relentless efforts to inspire hope among young people and strengthen the educational sector.
Beyond the distribution of the 500 tablets, the event also featured the presentation of gas ovens to bakers, grinding machines to small-scale traders, and cash grants to support micro businesses — underscoring the administration’s multi-sectoral approach to development.
Many of the beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation to the First Lady and her partners for what they described as life-changing support, pledging to use the items for their intended purposes and contribute to community progress.
