ONICHA-UKU/Nigeria: The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Delta North, Rt. Hon. (Engr.) Victor Onyekachi Ochei, has intensified his grassroots consultations with a visit to Onicha-Uku, where he appealed to residents to support his bid for the Senate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The visit attracted a crowd of supporters and community members who welcomed the former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly with traditional songs. Ochei joined residents in the celebrations before addressing the gathering on his party’s political agenda.
He urged NDC members and supporters to conduct their political activities peacefully and in accordance with the law, cautioning them against allowing fear of rival parties to affect their participation in the electoral process.
During the engagement, Ochei introduced the party’s candidates for the Delta State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives. They included Dr. Uzoma Valentine Awunor, contesting for Aniocha North Constituency I; Sir Vincent Ugbelase, the candidate for Aniocha North Constituency II; and Dame Isioma Theodora Ndah, the party’s candidate for the House of Representatives.
The senatorial candidate also expressed support for the presidential ambition of Peter Obi, arguing that his leadership would bring meaningful change to households and communities across the country.
Addressing the development challenges facing Delta North, Ochei called for what he described as a new political direction for the district. He criticised his major opponent, whom he accused of failing to adequately transform the area despite serving as governor of Delta State for eight years.
Ochei argued that the district needed leadership capable of translating political positions into tangible improvements in the lives of residents. His remarks formed part of his appeal for voters to consider the NDC as an alternative in the forthcoming elections.
The former Speaker expressed appreciation to community leaders who received the delegation, particularly the Ogwuluzeme of Onicha-Uku Kingdom, Chief Iwebunor Osakwe, also known as Omeifeasoani.
He urged residents to support the NDC’s candidates across the different levels of government, maintaining that the party offered an opportunity to pursue improved governance and development.
The visit forms part of the party’s grassroots engagement as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections. The extent to which the consultations translate into electoral support will depend on the candidates’ ability to persuade voters across Delta North’s nine local government areas.
