OBIARUKU/Nigeria: The attitudes of the traders in the Obiaruku main Market had been condemned by the Executive Director, Social Services Development, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Hon Christopher Ochor Ochor, when he paid an on the spot inspection of the market, to ascertain the level of work done on Section B, of the market, where deflooding work is being done.

Hon Ochor, who was encouraged by the work of the contractor, was not satisfied with the attitude of the traders who had formed the habit of blocking the drainage channels in the market, thus causing more problems when it rains.

Going through the market, he observed that the drain channels which were cleared not long had been filled up with waste from the market, thus creating blockages.

He advised the traders to also help in ensuring that they on their part carryout sanitation activities to clear the waste on regular basses, and avoid the habit of throwing their wastes inside the constructed water channels, as their action will create the impression that the work was not done diligently.

“With these wastes blocking the channels, it will make nonsense of the deflooding work being done by the government, through DESOPADEC. We have to change our attitudes in the use of public facilities.”
