The Executive Director Social Services Development, on the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, (DESOPADEC), Hon Ochor Chris Ochor, has lauded the preparedness of the Delta State governor, Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa on the various ways he is driving the state to increase the revenue base of the state.
The Executive Director spoke to reporters recently at the end of a two days retreat organised by the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue at Songhai Delta, Amukpe for Stakeholders on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), with a theme: “Improving IGR-A Collective Responsibility of All Deltans for the Actualisation of the SMART Agenda”.
Hon Ochor opined that the various retreat, summit, seminars and meetings organised by the present government, is all geared towards the achievement of the SMART Agenda of the government, which should be a collective efforts of all Deltans, as the governor is prepared to move the state forward.
According to him, “This is the preparedness of the Governor, His Excellency, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, towards governance, and his preparedness to serve Delta Better”.
Continuing, he pointed out that the various programs is focused on the improvement of the revenue base of the state, and as such the stakeholders retreat was a welcome one.
Also speaking on the burning issue of taxation, and the need for the people with richer and bigger properties, like cars paying more, as advocated by the governor, he said that all that the governor is saying is that people with bigger properties should pay higher, should be supported by all Deltans, as the present economic base of the state, which is, oil can no longer support the needs of the state, especially with the continuous downward movement of the oil price.
“It becomes imperative to look and increase other source of income for the state, and the Internally Generated Revenue is one of the best way to do so”. He concluded.
