BENIN-CITY/Nigeria: The Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Christopher Ochor Ochor, has hailed the SEPLAT Pearls Quiz Competition, an annual event organised by the Seplat Petroleum Development Company, as part of its Community Relation Responsibility, focused on the educational development of schools in Edo and Delta States, at the end of the 9th edition of the competition held in Imagwuero Grammar School, Benin City, on Thursday, November 19. 2020.
The Deputy Speaker, who was at the event as a Special Guest, and representative of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, and members of the House, stated in an interview at the end of the event, that efforts of the company to develop the educational standard of the host states is encouraging, as the states need the partnership from the private sectors to sustain the educational growths of the children.
He pointed out that the schools in the host states, especially Delta should continue to key into the annual event, as it will contribute to the reading and learning standard of any participating schools.
“I am encouraged by the standard of the SEPLAT Pearls Quiz Competition. It’s an annual event I will encourage all schools in the host states, especially Delta, to key into, as it will not only improve on the reading standard of the students, but also contribute to the infrastructure development of the participating schools”.
Reacting to the performance of the schools from Delta State, who came 2nd and 4th respectively, he stated that the schools tried, especially in getting to the final stage, out of 500 schools from the two states, but said that the schools in the state should equally prepare better for the next edition. However, he congratulated the schools, and Delta state, stating that information available to him, revealed that the state had in previous editions, came out top position (s).
“I congratulate the two schools from Delta, especially as finalists amongst the 500 schools who started the competition from the beginning. I advise they should not allow their performance to damping their efforts, but see it as a springboard to prepare better for the next edition.”
“Information at my disposal indicates that Delta had came out top in previous editions. We should not feel much disappointed, but to prepare our schools to take every competition seriously.” He stated.
