It was celebration and commendation at the Uvwie Local Government Secretariat on Thursday as Hon. Anthony Ofoni marked his first anniversary in office, drawing applause from political leaders, traditional rulers, community groups, and residents for what many described as a year of impactful leadership and grassroots transformation.

Ofoni, who assumed office in July 2024, has steered the council through a year of focused service delivery, prioritizing infrastructure upgrades, market modernization, health campaigns, education support, and agricultural innovation. From rehabilitating failed portions of inner roads to fencing the Effurun Market to stop roadside trading, the council boss is earning a reputation for pragmatic leadership.

Other notable projects under his watch include the construction of modern markets across Uvwie communities, the successful flag-off of the measles immunization campaign, the ‘Back to School’ initiative for public primary school pupils, donation of a Sienna space bus to NULGE, and the launch of the Uvwie Modern Farm at Oregha to boost food production and local employment.

At the well-attended thanksgiving event, Ofoni thanked the people of Uvwie for their unwavering support and pledged to consolidate on the gains made. “This one year has been a journey of commitment, learning, and service. We’ve made progress, but we’re only just getting started,” he declared, speaking with a tone of humility and resolve.

Former chairman of the council, Hon. Ramsey Onoyake, who was present at the ceremony, applauded Ofoni’s performance, describing it as a clear fulfilment of campaign promises and a sign of continuity in governance. “He is building on the foundation and doing even more,” Onoyake said.

Also lending his voice, the Unuevworo of Echie R’ Uvwie, High Chief Godwin Ejumi, described the chairman as a model of result-driven grassroots leadership. “He is making us proud with projects that touch the lives of the people directly,” the traditional ruler noted.

Women leaders, youth groups, religious figures, and community associations echoed similar sentiments, commending the council chairman for restoring confidence in local government administration and for promoting peace, education, and infrastructure renewal across the area.

The colourful celebration ended with thanksgiving, cultural dances, and the ceremonial cutting of the one-year anniversary cake by Hon. Ofoni, accompanied by cheers from an appreciative crowd.
