LAGOS/Nigeria: The Executive Assistant overseeing Orientation and Communication to Delta State Governor, Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, has voiced strong criticism regarding President Ahmed Tinubu’s recent New Year message to the nation.
According to Oghenesivbe, the message lacked essential elements such as hope, transparency, and a clear time frame for economic recovery.
In a comprehensive analysis presented during a live discussion on MiTV’s channel 255, he dissected President Tinubu’s speech alongside Elder Statesman Akin Fatunke.
He highlighted the absence of strategies aimed at alleviating hardships, particularly caused by the removal of fuel subsidies and the liberalization of the forex market.
He accused the President of knowingly instigating high inflation rates through these actions and urged the need for addressing economic strategies to counter these effects.
Furthermore, Oghenesivbe condemned the vague nature of President Tinubu’s message, asserting that it intensified feelings of hopelessness among ordinary citizens already grappling with the nation’s economic turmoil. He emphasized that the core elements outlined in the N28.7 trillion budget signed by President Tinubu, such as national defense, internal security, job creation, poverty reduction, and infrastructure development, warranted specific attention with defined timelines for implementation.
As a member of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs and CEO of Delta State Orientation Bureau, Oghenesivbe stressed the urgency for the Tinubu administration to resolve internal insecurity issues and stabilize power supply to attract substantial foreign investment. He further pinpointed the imperative need to address corruption within the corridors of power in the APC national government to enhance investor confidence.
Moreover, Oghenesivbe criticized President Tinubu’s silence on the recent unlawful killings in Plateau State, highlighting the importance of a personal visit to the affected regions, which he deemed a crucial demonstration of empathy and leadership.
Regarding the political turmoil in Rivers State, Oghenesivbe commented on the power struggle between former Governor Nyesom Wike and incumbent Governor Similanayi Fubara within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He emphasized the convention that incumbent governors control the party structure, refuting Wike’s claims of ownership over the party’s structure in the state.
In summary, Oghenesivbe labeled President Tinubu’s address as vague, deceitful, and lacking in substance. He called for clear articulation of economic reforms, job creation strategies, and a compassionate approach toward addressing national crises. Additionally, he expressed confidence in the PDP’s resurgence in 2027, citing perceived shortcomings and disillusionment with the current APC administration.
