OGONI/Nigeria: In a damning revelation, the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has alleged that $300 million intended for infrastructure and compensation in Ogoni was misappropriated by local individuals. The funds, stemming from an NNPC settlement, were designated to resolve longstanding oil crisis impacts.

In a stated signed by Secretary-General, Alex Akori, the  President Fegalo Nsuke, voiced outrage, condemning the alleged theft as a “genocide against the Ogoni and Niger Delta.” Despite calls for a thorough investigation, governmental response remains muted, prompting accusations of complicity.

President Nsuke, previously skeptical of the allegations, now advocates for urgent action, emphasizing the transformative potential lost due to personal greed. He insists that transparency and accountability are crucial to rectify decades of neglect and exploitation in Ogoni.

“This $300 million was meant to uplift our communities,” Nsuke declared. “Its disappearance is a travesty that must be rectified through immediate investigation and restitution. Ogoni demands justice and genuine development.”

The community, facing chronic infrastructural deficits, demands swift governmental intervention to reclaim and utilize the misappropriated funds for essential services like electricity, water, and education. Nsuke concludes, “We cannot tolerate further exploitation. The return of this money is essential to our future.”
