OZORO/Nigeria: In a remarkable fulfillment of his campaign promises, Godwin Ogorugba, the chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area in Delta State, has covered the enrollment fees for all Primary Six pupils in the council area.
The announcement was made on Wednesday in his office in Ozoro, following a meeting with his management team and the Head of the Education Department. Ogorugba explained that the initiative aligns with his educational policy for Isoko North, which he has dubbed Brightening the Future Through Education. He highlighted that the move was part of his commitment to support the educational sector and to advance the goals of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
“Given the current economic hardship, many parents are struggling to pay the enrollment fees for their children. As a responsible government, we have decided to take on this responsibility to ensure that every pupil is able to write the Primary Six examinations this year,” Ogorugba stated. He urged parents who had already paid for the fees to approach their respective headteachers for refunds.
In addition to this, Ogorugba’s administration has made significant strides in improving infrastructure and resources in the council area. These efforts include the distribution of free notebooks and other writing materials to the 43 public primary schools, construction of 15 lockup shops and 4 toilets in Ofagbe community, renovation of 65 open stores at Otor-Owhe market, and rehabilitation of critical roads like the Otor-Owhe-Owhelogbo and Otor-Iyede roads.
The chairman’s achievements have earned praise from community leaders, including former council vice chairman Gabriel Alebe and Felix Adaimoni, the immediate past councillor of Ozoro Ward 2. They commended Ogorugba for his commitment to alleviating the hardships of the people through infrastructure development and educational support.
