Ohanaeze Youths Call for Technological Reform in Judicial System, Urge FG to Adopt Non-Kinetic Approach

AWKA/Nigeria: The Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has called on the Federal Government to embrace technology and non-kinetic strategies to improve the judicial system and expedite the delivery of justice in Nigeria.

Mr. Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, Acting National Youth Leader of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, made the appeal during their 53rd National Executive Committee meeting held on Monday in Awka. He highlighted the urgent need for judicial reforms, particularly in the context of overcrowded correctional facilities and the prolonged detention of many Nigerian youths.

“We advise that technology and a non-kinetic approach be applied to ensure the speedy dispensation of justice in Nigeria, which will help decongest our correctional facilities,” Okpalaezeukwu said. “Many of our youths are being held in various detention centres across the country without trial. They should be tried quickly, and those found innocent should be released to rebuild their lives.”

He further urged the Federal Government’s key agencies, including the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, to urgently address these judicial bottlenecks. According to him, such reforms are critical for national security and the overall well-being of citizens.

During the meeting, Okpalaezeukwu also spoke on the group’s ongoing initiatives, including a five-day project inspection tour in Anambra, which is part of their strategy to hold political office holders accountable in all Igbo-speaking states. The youth leader praised the Anambra State government for its youth empowerment programs, free education initiatives, and efforts to improve healthcare services, particularly through the clampdown on quack medical facilities.

“We are impressed with the administration’s passion for youth empowerment, the introduction of STEM education, and the policy of free antenatal and delivery services,” Okpalaezeukwu noted. “We also commend the fiscal prudence of Governor Charles Soludo. Despite not borrowing since the inception of his administration, he continues to undertake audacious projects.”

He called on the people of Anambra to continue supporting Governor Soludo’s efforts to build a prosperous and progressive state. On security, Okpalaezeukwu emphasized the importance of engaging youth in local security operations to improve the overall safety of the state.

The Ohanaeze Youth leader also urged Governor Soludo to implement the new Minimum Wage Act to ease the economic challenges faced by civil servants in the state. He congratulated the newly elected local government chairmen and councillors in Imo and Enugu states, encouraging them to use available resources to bring development to the grassroots.

Additionally, Okpalaezeukwu called on the governments of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Rivers states to ensure peaceful and successful local government elections, stressing that delivering the dividends of democracy at the grassroots level is crucial for lasting development.
