Asaba: The Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa has called on the communities of Amai, Eziokpor, Umuebu and Obiaruku to embrace peace by laying down their arms of war.
The Governors statement is in a press release by the Delta Statement Police Command, Asaba on Saturday, June 3, 2017, and was signed by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim.
The statement called for the cessation of hostilities by the warring communities in Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state, and threatened to hold community leaders, traditional rulers responsible for the crises, if the instruction is not obeyed.
The governor in a meeting held during the week with the parties had ordered for the immediate release of all abducted persons within one week to allow the government find solution to the problem.
During the governor’s press briefing to as part of his administrations 2nd year in office, the governor in reponse to a question on the lingering communal crises had informed the press that he had slated meeting with the communities.
The statement from the CP further called on the people to shun rumour mongering, spreading of falsehood, but rather encourage every measure that would bring lasting peace to the area.
The commissioner called on the people of the area to go about their normal activities as the security has been beefed up in the affected areas, but they should avoid the disputed areas until the issue causing the problem is resolved.
Meanwhile, a source from the student leadership of the Novena University Amai campus has debunked the story that the body of final year student, Nathaniel Edehwosa from Eku, Ethiope East Local Area had been found by a combined team of the University Security and Amai Vigilante Group.
It could be recalled that Ndokwa Reporters exclusively reported the abduction of the student of the university along the Amai/Obiaruku road recently.
According to the student who don’t want his name mention, in an interview with www.ndokwareporters.com on Sunday, said the student is yet to be found, and at press time was still declared missing.
Also the When contacted, Sunday morning the spokesperson for the police in Delta, Andrew Aniamaka, said that none of the persons missing, including Edehwosa had been found or could be confirmed dead as their body had not be found.
