ASABA/Nigeria: Commercial tricycle (keke) riders in Delta State, particularly those in Asaba, now have cause to rejoice as the State government debunked rumour making the rounds that he will ban keke.
The State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa debunked the rumour while fielding questions from journalists during the 2019 Media Appreciation Meeting he held with pressmen at Government House, Asaba.
He stated that there was no plan to ban keke, saying, “For such plan to materialized, there has to be an alternative means of commercial transportation in the state and that buses or taxi cars would be expensive to procure” even as he maintained that he never thought of the idea of banning keke.
Governor Okowa frowned at the indiscriminate disposal of refuse by some unscrupulous Deltans as he warned against such dirty practice.
He also disclosed that in his second tenure, the government would established technical colleges in all the twenty five local government areas in Delta State, just he assured that health centres would be built in all the wards in the state.
The governor further spoke on other sundry issues affecting the state such as construction of drainages in Asaba, payment of new minimum wage, security, completion of uncompleted projects, payment of contractors, the aged, women and youth empowerment, urban renewal, development of the girl child among others.
He had earlier appreciated journalists for their partnership and good reportage of government activities in the first tenure, even as he called for the sustenance of the cordial relationship between the press and his administration.
The State NUJ Chairman, Comr. Mike Ikeogwu, pledged to sustain the cordial relationship between the press and Governor Okowa’s administration.
High point of the occasion was a presentation of a portrait to Governor Okowa by Association of Community newspapers to the governor.
Present at the meeting were the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Chiedu Ebie, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Olorogun David Edevbie, the functioning Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Delta State, Mr Paul Osahor JP and media practitioners in Delta State.
