AKWUKWU-IGBO/Nigeria: The Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has clarified that his administration has no intention of retrenching workers in the State or Local Government Councils.
The Governor said that the essence of the introduction of the Biometric Clocking System is to entrench sanity into the civil service as well as ascertain the true staff strength of the State.
Governor Okowa made this known during the flag-off of political campaigns for the forthcoming local government council election at Agbogidi Primary school, Akwukwu-Igbo.
Governor Okowa reassured local government workers that efforts were being made to clear all outstanding salary arrears as well as ensure regular payment of salaries.
At the Occasion, the Governor handed over the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) flag to the former Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Council, Hon. Louis Ndukwe as the candidate for the chairmanship position, pointing out that he was the choice of the people of Oshimili North under the platform of the PDP.
He expressed satisfaction that three women were among those contesting for councillorship from the various wards under the PDP in Oshimili North, adding that women should be politically empowered.
The Governor enjoined members of the public to ensure that they had their voter’s card, saying it would enable them to participate fully in the forthcoming elections, while commending the People of Oshimili North for the impressive turnout at the occasion.
