Mr. Peter Idion with some physically challenged persons at one of the tribunal sittings in Asaba
A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Peter Idion, has described the twin victory of the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, at the election petition tribunal, as victory for al Deltans, who he said unreservedly gave their mandate to the PDP.
Mr. Idion made the assertion on Monday, shortly after the Delta Governorship Election Petition Tribunal declared Senator Okowa as the validly elected governor of Delta State in the April 11th gubernatorial election in the state.
He maintained that, ” it is only somebody who is against the progress of Delta State and wants to deliberately stretch mischief to abnormal level that can say the last governorship election in the state was not free and fair. We are witnesses to the across the board support given to Senator Ifeanyi Okowa during his statewide campaign. The governor actually worked for his electoral victory.”
He noted that, “while Okowa’s opponents in that election were busy seeking and fighting for the endorsement from an ethnic based organisation, he (Okowa) was busy in the field campaigning and soliciting the support and votes of the people. And thank God, his efforts eventually paid off handsomely, going by the very wide margin between the number of votes he got and that of the other two contenders. Okowa’s resounding victory only proved one thing, which is, that hard work pays.”
According to the PDP chieftain, there was no way Olorogun O’tega Emerhor nor Chief Great Ogboru could have won that election, because, ” they never campaigned nor solicited for the votes of the people. Their approaching the tribunal after very poor showing at the election, was the height of mischief, as observed by the highly respected Chief Kenneth Gbagi, in a recent interview he granted a national newspaper.”
Mr. Idion however, urged the duo of O’tega and Ogboru to join hands with Governor Okowa to move the state forward, stressing that, “what Delta and Deltans need now is peace and prosperity. And this needs the support and input of all to achieve the SMART agenda of the Okowa administration.”
He called on Deltans, irrespective of ethnic origin or political affiliation, to join hands with Governor Okowa, in repositioning the state for a better and prosperous future.
