ASABA/Nigeria: President, Okpanam Youths Organisation (OYO), Comrade Friday Okonkwo has called for the construction of the road from Okpanam, Oshimili North local government area to Issele-Azagba, Aniocha North local government area saying such road is vital for the socio-economic development of the Delta State capital territory.
Comrade Okonkwo, popularly known as Kpokonor made the call at Amachai quarters, Okpanam, Oshimili North local government area of Delta State while reacting to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s commitment towards making Asaba a befitting capital of oil producing Delta State.
According to him, “it is good that Governor Okowa is doing so much to transform the capital city of Delta State, Okpanam as part of the state capital territory is witnessing road construction, but, I can tell you that the area will witness tremendous growth if the government constructs a road from Amachai to Issele-Azagba, the road will not only encourage developers but, it will ease traffic from the Benin/Onitsha expressway because, many people will like to travel leisurely through Amachai/Okpanam to Issele-Azagba, connect Issele-Uku without the risk of passing through the expressway.”
“Such road project, I can tell you, will bring about development from Asaba to Issele-Uku and open up the place for investors,” he said, adding, “at present, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is doing a lot in terms of road construction, Okpanam is home to a lot of civil servants and constructing this road will ease their movement/ With this road too, it will be easier for us to go to Akwukwu-Igbo which is our local government headquarter without passing through another local government area,” Comrade Okonkwo said.
He continued, “travelling distance to Akwukwu-Igbo through this road is so short, but, at present, it can only be accessed with Okada (commercial motor bike) which is not too good for workers in the local government council who lives in Okpanam. Let government help us because the road is very important to us, it will open up our community and the communities around here.”
The Okpanam Youths President observed that Governor Okowa has performed a lot in delivering dividends of democracy to Deltans, adding that the Senator representing Delta North, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi was also, ensuring good representation for the people and appealed to them to assist the people living in Okpanam to have good road network as the community is part of the capital territory.
