ASABA/Nigeria: Democratic People’s Party DPP, chieftains in Delta State have described Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s re-election in the just concluded governorship election as a victory for the teeming Deltans who had once again reaffirmed their hope and trust in Nigeria’s democracy and in his leadership qualities, which is highly commendable.
They equally congratulated the Governor on the issuance of certificate of return to him by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as a step in the right direction.
The Chairman of the party in the state, Mr. Abel Okpegwa, who spoke alongside with the governorship candidate of the party in the 2019 general elections, Mr. Richard Kimeku during an interactive session with journalists in Asaba, commended Deltans for their peaceful and orderly conduct in the just concluded governorship election which saw the reelection of Governor Okowa.
Okpegwa said,”Senator Okowa has proved himself as invaluable in every material particular to Deltans, his supporters as well as onlookers, hence no victory is too great for his efforts. I do believe that the development strides and empowerment disposition in his first term are but a litmus test, as Deltans will sure get ten times over the package with his reemergence.”
He explained that Deltans spoke with one voice for the first time hence the governor won 23 out of 25 LGAs. He added that Okowa’s humility, hard work had pay off. He encouraged all opposition to join in the victory dance and work with the governor in moving the state forward.
“Apart from the humility of the governor, his performance in terms of developmental infrastructures were unprecedented, the governor gave empowerment to every stakeholders in the state irrespective of political parties.”
Okpegwa adviced the governor to continue to be a listening governor saying he should continue to be a governor of Deltans because all Deltans delivered him not PDP alone.
“Governor Okowa’s leadership qualities have continued to be showered with accolades by those who truly appreciate what principle of true leadership entails; he is dynamic, focused and detribalized.
“I join millions of Nigerians and lovers of democracy worldwide to congratulate Governor Okowa on his re-election which is a true reflection of the will of the people as expressed at the polls across the 25 LGAs of the state.
While congratulating Okowa on his well deserved re-election, Okpegwa charged him to continue to pursue the collective interest of Deltans and to rededicate himself to the service of the people even as he urged him to be magnanimous in victory, just as it admonished the losers to be gallant in defeat and rally round the winner for the greater interest the state.
On his part, Mr. Kimeku, noted that governor Okowa has brought great pride to Delta State through his quality leadership which and fore-sight.
While urging Deltans to continue to support the governor, Kimeku described Okowa as a good manager of people and resources which explained why he is steadily making rapid incursion into more progressive governance and being seen as a template by others in leadership positions.
“I am proud to contest the governorship election with the governor but now that Deltans have spoken through their votes, it behooves on me to support him for the interest of the state and i call on every Deltan irrespective of political affiliations to rally round the governor.”
