ASABA/Nigeria: The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in collaboration with the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has empowered 500 businesswomen in Delta State with essential tools to boost their businesses and livelihoods.
At a ceremony held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Cenotaph in Asaba, the women entrepreneurs received critical business equipment, including deep freezers, gas cookers with ovens, generators, and grain grinding machines. The intervention is part of a broader national programme designed to impact 18,500 women across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Delivering her remarks, Senator Tinubu emphasized the importance of empowering women to drive national development. Represented by the wife of the Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, who also serves as the RHI State Coordinator, the First Lady said the programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which prioritizes inclusivity, economic growth, and sustainable development.
“This programme acknowledges the vital role women play in nation-building and aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which emphasizes inclusivity, economic growth, and sustainable development for all Nigerians, with a particular focus on empowering women economically,” she said.
Senator Tinubu further stressed that women’s empowerment is key to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG-5 on Gender Equality and SDG-8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth. “The items being distributed today are intended to equip our women with the tools and resources they need to build successful businesses and contribute to the prosperity of our great nation,” she added.
Reading the speech on behalf of Deaconess Oborevwori, Lady Catherine Onyeme described the empowerment programme as a critical investment in the heartbeat of communities—women. “Today, we witness the tangible manifestation of what it means to invest in the heartbeat of our communities – our women,” she declared.
In her address, Deaconess Oborevwori commended the Renewed Hope Initiative for its impact, describing the programme as a catalyst for financial independence, food security, and an improved quality of life. “These tools will do more than support small-scale businesses; they will open new doors to financial independence, improved household incomes, food security, and dignified living,” she affirmed.
She urged the beneficiaries to maximize the opportunity by growing sustainable businesses that would inspire others. “Let these resources be seeds that grow into sustainable businesses. May your success stories become beacons of hope for others to follow,” she encouraged.
Several beneficiaries who spoke to journalists expressed deep appreciation to Senator Oluremi Tinubu, describing the empowerment as a life-changing opportunity that would significantly improve their businesses and family welfare.
