Omo-Agege Dismisses Claims of Abandoning 2027 Governorship Bid for Oborevwori

Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege

ASABA/Nigeria: Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has dismissed reports suggesting he has abandoned his 2027 governorship ambition in Delta State following alleged persuasion by Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.

The reports, which have stirred political debate in the state, claimed that Omo-Agege had agreed to shelve his ambition after a conversation with Nwaoboshi, witnessed by a former governor. The claims further suggested that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), had now been positioned as the party’s leader in Delta.

Reacting to the speculation, Omo-Agege’s aide, Chuks Erhire, described the story as “fake, malicious, petty and erroneous,” stressing that his principal has not held any discussion with Nwaoboshi on stepping down for Oborevwori.

“To set the record straight, our principal, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege did not indulge in any phone conversation or roundtable discussion with Nwaoboshi concerning forfeiting his governorship quest for Sheriff Oborevwori in 2027,” Erhire said.

He added that the story was the handiwork of “mischief makers within Delta APC” who were bent on misleading the public and creating a false narrative to project Oborevwori as the consensus candidate.

Omo-Agege, the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, has consistently signaled his intention to contest again in 2027, setting the stage for what may become one of Delta’s most intense political battles.
