Omo-Agege’s Exit Won’t Shake Delta APC, Party Declares

All Progressives Congress (APC)

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed concerns over the resignation of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, from the party, insisting that his exit would not affect the party’s strength, unity or political fortunes in the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Delta State Publicity Secretary of the party, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq., the APC declared that the party in Delta remained “strong, united and irrevocably aligned” with the leadership and political direction of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

The party said it received news of Omo-Agege’s resignation with what it described as “unbothered equanimity,” while wishing him success in his future political endeavours.

According to the statement, the APC in Delta State has continued to witness unprecedented growth, renewed political relevance and increased grassroots acceptance since Governor Oborevwori aligned with the ruling party.

The statement further noted that party faithful across wards, local government areas and senatorial districts had embraced a new era of inclusion, stability and purposeful leadership under the governor’s influence.

The APC maintained that Senator Omo-Agege had made minimal contributions towards strengthening party structures or promoting unity since the governor joined the party, stressing that his departure would not diminish the party’s electoral prospects in the state.

“His exit does not diminish the strength, stability or prospects of our great party,” the statement stated.

The party also rejected what it described as “false and misleading narratives” suggesting that the political fortunes of the APC in Delta State were tied to any individual.

According to the APC, the party had evolved beyond personality-driven politics into a formidable political institution built on collective leadership, broad participation and commitment to the progress and development of Deltans.

The statement alleged that developments preceding Omo-Agege’s resignation had already indicated a deliberate political separation, citing the movement of some of his close associates, including Hon. Ejaife Odebala, Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi and Hon. Collins Egbetamah, to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) before the party primaries.

The party further claimed that the former Deputy Senate President’s participation in the senatorial primary was part of a political strategy aimed at facilitating his eventual exit from the APC after failing to secure the party’s ticket.

The APC also accused Omo-Agege of allegedly distancing himself from critical party activities after the primaries, including efforts geared towards supporting the electoral victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Let no one be deceived: the exit of one individual, regardless of past titles or political history, does nothing to diminish the strength, stability or electoral prospects of Delta APC,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its loyalty to President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori, the party described both leaders as visionary figures whose leadership had inspired confidence and repositioned the APC as a dominant political force nationally and within Delta State.

The party stressed that it remained committed to consolidating its achievements and building a stronger political structure for the overall benefit of Deltans.

The statement concluded with the party’s slogan: “APC Renewed Hope for M.O.R.E Agenda.”
