IBADAN/Nigeria: The political landscape in Oyo State witnessed a significant shift on Monday following the appointment of Hon. Olufemi Onireti as Director-General of the City Boy Movement, a prominent grassroots mobilisation platform supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The appointment, formally announced in Abuja by the movement’s national leadership, was conveyed by its Director-General, Mr. Francis Shoga, during the presentation of the appointment letter to Onireti.

Onireti’s emergence comes on the heels of his recent resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he was a notable figure and former House of Representatives candidate, signalling a strategic political realignment ahead of future electoral engagements.

The leadership of the movement said his selection was informed by his extensive political network, organisational strength and established grassroots appeal, particularly among youths and community stakeholders.

In his acceptance remarks, Onireti expressed appreciation for the trust reposed in him, assuring that he would leverage his experience to deepen the movement’s reach and consolidate support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda in Oyo State.

He described his decision to align with the ruling party as one driven by conviction and evolving political realities, noting that it followed wide consultations with his supporters and political associates.

“I am committed to galvanising our structures and ensuring that Oyo State remains a stronghold for the ideals we stand for,” he said, pledging an inclusive and strategic approach to mobilisation.

He further assured that his leadership would prioritise effective communication, unity of purpose and the expansion of the movement’s grassroots structures across the state.

Observers believe the development could recalibrate the political dynamics in Oyo State, given Onireti’s influence and the timing of his defection, as parties begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The City Boy Movement, a youth-driven platform championing support for the Tinubu administration, is expected to roll out a comprehensive operational roadmap in the coming days as it strengthens its national mobilisation framework.
