Kwale: Students of Onitcha-Ukwuani in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, has been empowered financially to boost their educational program, with the sum of N3.150 million.
The financial assistant was made recently by the Chairman of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, Chief Monday Onyeme, in the maiden “Odoziani-Ani” scholarship and empowerment Scheme organized by the “Onitcha-Ukwuani Foundation”.
Chief Onyeme, while presenting the awards in cheques, noted that the gesture was informed by his desire to give back to nature for his numerous blessings from God.
He explained that he decided to channel the programme towards educational and academic sectors in order to assist in building the youths and the nation.
He pointed out that the scholarship and financial assistance was to uplift the students seeking to start polytechnic and university institutions of learning. Saying that the scheme would be an annual event, adding that the donation was also meant to encourage and psyche up academic among Onitcha-Ukwuani youths, while advising parents and guardians to always give their children and wards the support, especially in their various educational dreams.
While commending the officials of the Onitcha-Ukwuani Foundation, for successfully organizing the award ceremony, he urged the people of the community to join hands in developing the town, especially in rallying round the foundation to see that development comes to the area.
In an interview after the occasion, the chairman of the organizing committee, Mr Orji Ossai said that the 30 beneficiaries of the award participated in an aptitude test for the qualification among 125 contestants.
He advised other students who did not make it to see the scheme as a motivator to increase their efforts to study academically, while at the same time congratulated the winners and beneficiaries and tasked them to maintain the standard they have attained.
The first prize for the beneficiary from the aptitude test was the sum of N175, 000.00, which went to Miss Otuole Rosemary.
