Onyeme Advocates Strengthening Cooperation Between Security Agencies and Civilians

ASABA/Nigeria: Sir Monday Onyeme, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, emphasized the importance of collaboration between security agencies and civilians in order to establish a peaceful society.

He recognized that peace and security are key components of the M.O.R.E. agenda implemented by the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori on Thursday, June 15, 2023, during the visit of Members 63 Brigade Officers Mess

Sir Onyeme highlighted that by fostering a positive relationship between security agencies and the public, a peaceful environment conducive to progress can be achieved.

During a courtesy visit by honorary members of the 63 Brigade Officers’ Mess, led by Chief Ikechukwu Victor, the Chairman of the group, Sir Onyeme expressed his views. The visit took place at the Government House in Asaba, where the Deputy Governor’s office is located. He encouraged civilians not to fear interacting with security operatives, emphasizing that soldiers are human beings who experience emotions just like everyone else. Sir Onyeme added that many senior officers are even more compassionate and gentle than ordinary citizens.

The Deputy Governor stressed the need for a strong connection between uniformed personnel and civilians, particularly in sharing ideas and information that can contribute to a more peaceful state and country. He expressed his gratitude to the members of the Officers’ Mess for serving as a link between the military and the general public. Sir Onyeme acknowledged their significant role in bridging the information gap between soldiers and civilians.

Addressing the honorary members of the 63 Brigade Officers’ Mess, the Deputy Governor acknowledged their diverse responsibilities. While some may consider them “soldiers without uniform,” he emphasized that their contributions go beyond that label. He regarded them as the connecting point between soldiers and the civilians they protect. Sir Onyeme encouraged more people to join the association, as it would facilitate better communication between uniformed personnel and the public.

Furthermore, Sir Onyeme praised the honorary members of the Officers’ Mess for their support and solidarity following his assumption of office as Deputy Governor. He urged them to actively participate in the development of a state that all residents can take pride in. Chief Ikechukwu Victor, representing the group, congratulated Sir Onyeme on his election and successful assumption of duty. He assured the Deputy Governor of the continuous support of the group and the people of Delta State for the success of the Rt. Hon. Oborevwori’s administration.

The visit was witnessed by Sir Christopher Osakwe, the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Government House.
