ABBI/Nigeria: Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, has declared that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has exceeded the expectations of the electorate within his first two years in office.
Onyeme made the remark on Sunday at a reception in Abbi, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, following a Thanksgiving Mass in honour of Hon. Eugene Okolocha, Ph.D, at St. John’s Catholic Church. The event celebrated Okolocha’s appointment as Commissioner representing the South-South in the Nigeria Law Reform Commission (NLRC) by President Bola Tinubu.
While congratulating Okolocha, the deputy governor expressed confidence in his capacity to deliver in the new role and described the appointment as a sign of greater opportunities ahead for Ndokwa people.
“This appointment of our brother, Hon. Eugene Okolocha, is one of the ways God is working for us as a people. I have known him for a long time, and I believe this is just the beginning. Greater positions will come his way,” Onyeme said.
He listed several road projects currently being executed in Ndokwa land by the Oborevwori administration, including the Inam–Abbi road, Emu–Abraka road, Onicha-Ukwuani–Utagba-Uno road, Utagba-Uno–Ndemili road, Amai–Aragba road, and Aboh–Akarai road. He also highlighted the completion of the bridge across Ase Creek and the Obi Ukpo–Ibabu road.
“In just two years, we have recorded tremendous progress, especially in road infrastructure. Imagine what will happen in the coming years if this pace is sustained,” he added.
Onyeme further noted that with the governor’s “unfettered access to Aso Rock,” Deltans stood to gain more benefits from the Federal Government under the Renewed Hope agenda.
Earlier, Prof. Chike Okolocha, elder brother of the new NLRC commissioner and a former Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development in Delta State, pledged the family’s support for the Oborevwori administration, describing Onyeme as the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ndokwa land.
“We thank President Bola Tinubu for recognizing my brother with this appointment, and we assure the government of our loyalty and support,” he said.
In his thanksgiving remarks, Hon. Okolocha recalled surviving a failed assassination attempt 19 years ago while serving as Special Assistant to then PDP National Chairman, Sen. Ahmadu Ali, and said his return to the church was to thank God for sparing his life and for his new appointment.
Rev. Fr. Ezekiel Awore, in his homily, emphasized humility as a virtue every Christian should uphold.
Dignitaries at the event included Delta State Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Tilije; Deputy Chief of Staff, Sir Christopher Osakwe; Hon. Charles Emetulu, member representing Ndokwa West Constituency in the State Assembly; Sir Felix Gbagi; Chief Henry Okechukwu; and Mr. Ray Owen, among others.
