EFFURUN/Nigeria: Managers has been called to exhibit good Intelligent, Emotional and Political Quotients to make good and tough decisions in a timely way as multiple constituencies and responsibilities has been mentioned as some of the characteristics of 21st century Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
This was stated by Chief Ruona Monday Itoghor, Chief Executive officer of Environmedic Services, during the monthly leadership class at Centre LSD Leadership School in Partnership with Value Rebirth and Empowerment Initiative, Effurun-Warri study centre on “What It Takes To Be A CEO” at Heartland Hotel, Effurun Delta State.
Chief Ruona affirmed that a CEO, and manger of a public department must work as a team by understanding the personalities involved in the team, adding that there are four characteristics of partners involved in a team which are activists, theorists, reflectors and protagonists, even as he maintained that a CEO must involve the four categories so as to be effective in any given organisation.
He stressed that a CEO must have Intelligence Quotient, Emotional Quotient as well as Political Quotient to run the vision of an organisation successfully, saying that for a CEO to be effective there must be design in operation to suit employees emotional Quotient which involve self awareness, self regulation, motivation, empathy and social skill.
Chief Ruona noted that a CEO must understand the culture and value of the environment it’s operating from and stick to what makes its organisation outstanding, adding that being strategic, innovative, competitive advantage and executioner are some of the qualities of a CEO.
He stated that a CEO should know its strength and weakness, an opportunity and threat as well as understands the opportunities around the organisation environment, even as he maintained that a CEO must build on its strength, eliminate weakness, exploit opportunities and mitigate the effect of threats.
