Orumba South Chairman Rallies Parents for Polio Vaccination Campaign

ORUMBA/Nigeria: The Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area in Anambra State, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike, has urged parents and caregivers across the council to ensure their children are immunised against the deadly poliovirus as part of the National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs) campaign.
Speaking at the official flag-off of the campaign on Thursday, Azubuike appealed to residents to fully participate in the exercise, which is scheduled to commence on Saturday, May 3. He emphasized the importance of immunisation in protecting children’s health and strengthening their immunity against preventable diseases.
“According to health experts, immunisation is a vital step in boosting the health and immunity of our children in the community,” Azubuike said. “I appeal to parents, especially mothers, to allow their children to be vaccinated during this period and protect them from the Polio virus. Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is doing everything possible to protect our children, and it is our collective responsibility to support this cause.”
Mrs. Chisom Uchem, Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, who also addressed the gathering, explained that the polio vaccine is targeted at children aged zero to 59 months. She assured parents that the vaccine is free, safe, and effective in preventing poliomyelitis—a potentially fatal disease that can cause irreversible paralysis.
Lending royal support, the traditional ruler of Eziagu community, Igwe Bernard Emejuo, commended Governor Soludo for his proactive health initiatives. He pledged full support for the vaccination campaign and promised to mobilise his community to ensure a successful exercise.
