KWALE/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Hon. Chika Ossai has expressed satisfaction with the level of comfort for people displaced by flood who are taking refuge at different Holding Camps in the state.
Hon. Ossai who personally presented relief materials to the Holding Camps in Kwale and Ashaka in Ndokwa West and Ndokwa East local government areas of Delta State on Saturday, October 13, 2018 commended Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for taking proactive steps which ensures that no life was lost in Ndokwa East local government area as a result of the flood.
“My people, the good people of Ndokwa East local government area are most hit by the flood, almost all the communities in the local government area are under water, but, it is gratifying to note that unlike the flood of 2012 that some persons lost their lives as a result of the flood, no incident of such was recorded this year due to the flood and we thank God for using Governor Okowa to save the situation,” Hon. Ossai said.
He continued, “for some days due to the advent of social media, I have being receiving gift items for my birthday celebration but, what is the need of celebrating when my people, the people who respect me so much, the people I am proud to represent have been sacked from their communities by flood, it is a trying time for all of us and I need to identify with them.”
“No amount of gift will be enough for them if you imagine the trauma of having your mud house eaten up by flood, your farm produce destroyed by flood, and sacked not by war, but, by flood, natural disaster,” he said.
The Commissioner who thanked God for His blessings, also, visited Foster Paradise Orphanage Home, Ashaka where he spent time with the people observed, “We should imbibe the attitude of sharing, being our neighbour’s keepers and be thankful to God for His gift, the gift of life.”
Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Ernest Ogwezzy who was around to receive the gifts presented to the Holding Camps, thanked Hon. Ossai for the humanitarian gesture, asserting, “At this trying period, we need more assistance to meet with the needs of the displaced persons.”
